If you have not been through Island Park recently, you may not be aware that there have been significant tree cutbacks along both sides of US 20 within the state easement. Trees are being logged and removed; creating more open spaces, allowing drivers to see wildlife to avoid collisions. This also allows more sunlight to reach the roadways, improving safety for drivers during winter months and maintaining the quality condition of the roadway. We are unaware of the contract details; however, it appears the logging contract is operational from the old cutback area to past Elk Creek currently. The work has been ongoing through the winter and continues. We are unaware if the contract will be extended to Island Park Village.
We appreciate this effort by the Idaho Transportation Department to make this corridor safer for all. It has been a community request for many years.
